Description
Dedicated to the study room. Decorated with Hermes and Athena (in Roman mythology Mercury and Minerva), presides over the dome, while the crests are instruments of science and the arts. All this was done by Federico Zuccaro between 1566 and 1569. The representation of these two gods, or fused together as a single form (Hermathena), was widely used in classical iconography, as Hermes represented eloquence and Athena wisdom, the arts and sciences.
